Desert Breezes Community members,
The decision has been made to cancel the private candidates’ forum scheduled for 2/19/2025 in an attempt to allow the Election Committee the opportunity to convene and reach out to all the candidates and properly schedule an official forum to ensure a fair election as mandated by our CC&Rs and approved Election Committee Charter, dated 8/19/2024.
There has been a flurry of misinformation floating around and it’s important to clear the air and ensure the proper steps are taken to protect the fairness of the election as well as the rights of the candidates. The election rules clearly state that private candidate events that support opportunities to introduce candidates to the community are allowable.
Two of the current candidates are, at large, not as well known to the community as is the third candidate as they have never served on the board. These candidates are Valerie Liautaud-Watkins and Janet McKnight. Their opinions and commitments to run for the HOA board matter and they should be afforded the opportunity to speak at as many events as they see fit.
There will be more information to come in the near future. Thank you all for your time and patience.
The Meet the Candidates event scheduled for Monday, February 10, 2025 at 6:00 p.m. was abruptly cancelled without explanation 30 minutes beforehand and rescheduled for an in-person only meeting two days later. That event has also been cancelled. Please mark your calendar for this event.
